Paris Free Time Ideas: Hotel-Transportation-Interesting Sites-Weather (Click on names to launch websites)




Hotel Mercure Paris La Defense

     In a commercial district (Kind of like Century City), busy during day.  Quiet at night.
     1 mile to Metro (Subway) Station:  LA GRANDE ARCHE DE LA DEFENSE
     Free shuttle bus from hotel to/from  La Grande Arche de La Defense Metro Station (Every 20 min)
     Hotel has free wifi, currency exchange, gift shop and a small fitness room



Metro/Trains/Transportation

     Single ride price is 1.70 E (La Defense is in Zone 2 for the Metro/Zone 3 for RER)
     “Ticket Jeunes”  (Under 26 years old, Sat-Sun only) 1 day pass for Metro 3.50 E
     “Ticket Mobilis” (Zones1-2) 1 day pass for Metro 6.30 E
     “Carnet” (Kar-nay) of 10 tickets  for Metro, buses and RER (Zones 1-2 only)   12.70 E
     The Metro runs from around 5:20 am – 1:20 am (1 hour longer on Saturday night)
     La Defense Metro station is about a 10 -15 minute ride via the Metro  to the main part of Paris



Things to do for free time

     Montmartre (Sacre Coeur Basilica):  Great at sunset, small streets, quaint shops, awesome  view of Paris, was home to Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso. (Metro: Abbesses)
     Tour Saint-Jacques:  360 degree view of Paris.  6 E for Adults, 3 E for Students (Metro: Chatelet)
     Musee  D’Orsay : Impressionist art (World’s largest),  9:30 -6:00 open,  Under 18 – Free, 18-25 6.50 E, Adults 9 E  (Metro: Assemblee Nationale, Solferino or Tuilleries)
     Pere-Lachaise Cemetery (Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise) :  Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde,  Chopin, most famous cemetery in Paris. Free.  (Metro: Pere-Lachaise)
     Luxembourg Gardens (Jardin du Luxembourg):  Place to see Parisian families having fun and hanging out…In the Latin Quarter.  Great area to eat, shop, and experience street life. (Metro: Jardin du Luxembourg).   WHEU concert Sunday 2-4 here.
     Les Invalides (Hotel Des Invalides):  Open 10-7:00 pm.  Napoleon’s tomb. Great for history buffs. Under 18 Free, Adults  9.5 E, After 5pm 7.5 E (MetroL Invalides, Varennes, LaTour Marbourg, St. Francis Xavier)
